BEHAVIOURAL HEALTH PILOT PROGRAM

Behavioural health is the most prevalent patient condition inadequately served by our established medical system — and the impact on the individual goes beyond their psychology, to their broader health, and their life.

In partnership with North Brisbane Psychologists and Beddown we have pioneered a mental health social worker-lead model of care within a Brisbane shelter, addressing underlying behavioural health factors (including but not limited to mental health) that are often left unaddressed for people experiencing homelessness, but which touch all aspects of our friend’s lives.

This initiative helps to connect those experiencing homelessness with outreach bulk-billed mental health services, government and health services, and build social and living skills to help people transition to lives in permanent accommodation.

A comprehensive report on the pilot program is found here, and we have recently received funding to continue this program given the impact of the pilot.
